Psalm 1

He is like a tree planted by streams of water

that yields it fruit in its season,

and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does He prospers.

Psalm 1:3

Meditating scripture is one of the most important ways to enter the presence of God. You can only enter the presence of God, when you know wholeheartedly who God is. The word of God declares all things about God. Knowing the word will always lead you to knowing God. Reading the word will keep you in balance with his will and his character. Meditating scripture keeps you firmly planted in His presence. Scripture keeps you in contact with the goodness of God. That contact, will lead to an outpouring of fruit upon your life. The fruit is not only the fruits of the Spirit, but also the fruit of labor: disciples of Christ.

You see this verbal illustration again in Jeremiah 17:9:

He is like a tree planted by water.

that sends out roots by the stream,

for its leaves remain green,

and is not anxious in the year of drought,

for it does not cease to bear fruit.

Meditating the word leads you to his presence. This is why the word keeps you planted and grounded in hard times. God's word was planted so deeply in me, that I stood firm in time of trial and did not cease to bear fruit. Most trees die in drought; in winter, trees become dormant. It is unlikely for a tree to bear fruit in drought and winter. The promise here is that: Those who immerse themselves in the presence of God, will never lack any fruit.

If hard times have come upon you, or if you are struggling remaining in the presence of God, I suggest turning to God's word and allowing the Spirit to overcome you. In doing so, you will see the fruit of that planting.

Grace and peace be with you.
